Mushroom Masala Dosa

Dosa is one of the popular breakfast in South India. There are many varieties of dosa like plain dosa, masala dosa, onion dosa, egg dosa, rava dosa and so on, the list will be long. Again in masala dosa there are many varieties like potato masala dosa, panner butter masala dosa, chicken masala dosa and my significant butter chicken dosa etc.....

Today's recipe is mushroom masala dosa which is very easy to prepare. It is one of my families favorite dosa. Don't miss this yummy dosa....

Mushroom Masala Dosa

Total time for Prep masala : 20 min

Ingredients for Mushroom Masala:
  • Mushroom - 200 gm
  • Onion - 1 large
  • Tomato - 1
  • Mustard seeds / Avalu - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds / Jeera - /2 tsp
  • Cumin - Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
Prep Time for dosa : 3 hrs + 12 hrs fermentation time.
For prep Each : 2 min 

Ingredients for dosa batter:
  • Urad dal / Black gram - 1 cup
  • Raw Rice - 2 cups
Preparation for Dosa Batter:

  • Clean and soak raw rice and urad dal / black gram separately for at least 3 hrs.
  • In a grinder or mixer, grind rice and urad dal separately into paste adding little water at a time. Don't add too much water.
  • Mix the rice and dal paste and keep lid on and let it ferment for 12 hrs.
  • If we want to make them immediately, add little baking powder.
  • If weather is cold or you have only 6  hrs to ferment the dosa batter switch on the convection  oven light and place the bowl with batter in the oven.


Preparation for Mushroom Masala:

  • Chop onion, tomato and mushrooms into small pieces.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds / avalu, cumin seeds / jeera and let them pop.
  • Now add chopped onion, turmeric and little salt and cook until onion become transparent.
  • Now add ginger-garlic paste and let it cook until raw small goes and add in tomato and cook for 3 min and add cumin-coriander powder, red chilli powder, garam masala and adjust salt.
  • Add mushroom and cook until mushroom become tender and there is no water. It will take 10 min.
  • Mushroom masala is ready.
Preparation for Mushroom masala dosa:

  • Mix water in the dosa batter as required (pouring consistency as shown in above image) and salt.
  • Heat a griddle and pour dosa batter and spread it and drizzle some oil and let it cook for a min or until dosa become slightly crisp.
  • Now place some mushroom masala and fold over and serve.
