Dondakaya Karam petti Kura ( Tindora with Curry powder)

I can't resist myself in bringing these beautiful, green, tender tindora's home. I love any thing made with tindora, that maybe tindora fry or tindora chutney or tindora stew/pulusu or tindora onion gravy curry. But my mom used to prepare a curry with tindora which stand high among these. Preparing some recipes will be very easy and taste like heaven. Dondakaya Karam petti Kura  / Tindora with Curry powder will be one. This recipe is famous among some communities of Andhra. Preparing this curry is very simple and easy. We have to cook tindora and add simple curry powder that we make.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time : 15 to 20 minutes
Serve - 2 to 3

Ingredients:
  • Dondakaya/Tandoora -  500 gms
  • Chana dal / Senagapappu - 1Tbsp
  • Urad Dal / Minappapu -1 Tbsp
  • Coriander seeds / Dhaniyalu - 1 Tsp
  • Dry red chillies -  5
  • Sugar - 1/2 tsp
  • Tamarind - Cherry size
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
Method:
  • Wash and trim the edges and chop tandora lengthwise.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add chopped tindora along with little salt and turmeric, cook with lid on till tindora turn soft.
  • While cooking tindora, dry roast chana dal, urad dal, coriander seeds, tamarind and red chillies till they turn brown on low flame. Cool them and grind into powder along with sugar.
  • Once tindora turn soft add the ground powder and salt, mix well and 1/4 cup water and cook for 2 minutes. 
  • Serve hot with hot rice with a dollop of ghee.
Note:
  • Curry powder we make will sufficient, don't add too much, it spoil the curry.
  • No need to add more water.
