Onion ka salan/Biryani Gravy

                 Salan is a biryani gravy mostly served in restaurants. There are many different types of salan recipes such as onion ka salan, mirchi ka salan, baingan ka salan, chicken ka salan, fish ka salan. Mostly in restaurants they will serve onion or veg salan with biryani.

Ingredients:

  • Peanuts - 2 tsp
  • Sesame seeds - 2 tsp
  • Desiccated coconut - 2 tsp
  • Onion - 2
  • Oil - 4 tsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • Tamarind juice – 1 cup (extracted from a marble size of tamarind)
  • Salt as per taste
  • Jaggery - 1 tsp  

Method:

  • Heat a pan and dry roast the peanuts, sesame seeds, desiccated coconut, in this add 1 chopped onion, cook this till onions are tender, put the ingredients in the blender and make a fine paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan add the remaining onions, salt, saute them, and keep it aside.
  • In the same oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, ginger garlic paste, curry leave, chilly powder, coriander powder, turmeric, cumin powder and add peanuts, sesame seed paste mix it and add water once comes to boil put the flame slow for 15 minutes.
  • Then add tamarind juice, salt, jaggery, mix it and put the lid cook for some time, in this add saute onions cook for 12 minutes and switch off the flame.
  • Serve with  biryani.
