Jeera Rice

Jeera Rice is the most flavorful rice and is very simple to prepare and goes well with any gravy curries. Jeera is a spice which is widely used in Indian cooking. This aromatic spice is known for its medical properties and is a rich source of iron and is good for digestive system.

There are many health benefits of Jeera (Cumin seeds)
Eating cumin seeds in food and drinking jeera water will improves the breast feeding in feeding mothers.
It helps to get rid from the constant crying in the children.
Because of its richness in the iron content, it helps in treating the anaemia by maintaining the haemoglobin content of the blood.
Jeera seeds are rich in the Vitamin C and have anti fungal properties thus aids in curing the cold including other respiratory problems.

Ingredients:
  • Basmati Rice or Normal Rice - 1.5 cup
  • Jeera / Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Javitri / Mace - 2 thread
  • Anasa puvvu / Star anise -1
  • Elachi / Cardamom - 2
  • Lavagam / Cloves - 2
  • Green Chillies - 3 (optional)
  • Butter or Oil - 3 tsp
  • Coriander leaves, chopped - 3 tsp
  • Salt to taste
Preparation:
  • Soak rice for 20 mins.
  • Heat  butter or oil in a pot and fry jeera, bay leaf, mace, star anise, cardamom, cloves and chillies.
  • When jeera crackles add rice and saute for 2 min.
  • Add 3 cups water and salt  and stir.
  • Close with lid and cook on medium heat.
  • We can add fried onions which will add more flavor.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with any gravy curry.
